Kyaggwe’s road to their historic, first ever Masaza Cup Final

Ahead of the 2024 Masaza Cup final, here’s a look at Kyaggwe’s route to their showdown clash with Buddu at Mandela National Stadium in Namboole on Saturday, November 2.

Kyaggwe and Buddu meet in a highly anticipated Masaza Cup final on Saturday, November 2. The 2024 Masaza Cup final at Namboole is scheduled to commence at 3:00 PM East African Time. Here’s a look at how Kyaggwe made it to their first Masaza Cup final ever.

The Bukunja Worriors were placed in Muganzirwazza Group alongside Ssingo, Buweekula, Gomba, Kooki and Mawogola. Kyaggwe finished third in Muganzirwazza Group, racking up 15 points from a possible 30, with 4 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses during the group stage round.

In the quarter-finals round, Kyaggwe defeated Ssingo 2-1 on aggregate. In the first leg, Kyaggwe exacted revenge on Ssingo with a 1-0 win in Mukono, courtesy of David Mugalu’s first-half strike.

Ssingo had previously defeated Kyaggwe home and away during the group stages. Ssingo’s hopes of a third Masaza Cup triumph were dashed on Sunday September 29th.

Kyaggwe then faced Buweekula in the semi-finals of the competition. The Bukunja Worriors came out on top after Steven Nyalimu’s brace propelled Kyaggwe to a 2-1 comeback win in the first leg at home in Mukono before finishing the job at in Mubende with a goalless draw in the second leg which was enough for Kyaggwe to make their first-ever Masaza Cup final.

The two teams had already met twice in the group stage, with both encounters ending in draws.
