The fifth edition of the Ankole Cup began under overcast skies at Bushenyi Main Stadium, but the football on offer was anything but gloomy—at least for the politicians.

Before the main event, the future stars of Ankole football took the stage. St. Kagwa Bushenyi High School and Muntuyera High School fought a tense, tactical battle that ended goalless. Both goalkeepers earned their clean sheets with stunning saves, but the forwards lacked the final touch. A fair result for two well-drilled school sides.

Then came the fixture that had the crowd buzzing—media vs. legislators. The Members of Parliament earned their goals through Hon. Mpaka Mwine and Hon. Agaba Peter while the journalists's consolation goal was scored by Jose Smile. Verdict: The media won the headlines, but the MPs won the match.

The match everyone waited for—#Amashanyarazi —ended in a hard-fought stalemate.

Both defenses stood firm. Bushenyi’s backline, roared on by the home crowd, repelled wave after wave of Sheema attacks. Sheema’s goalkeeper produced the save of the game in the 78th minute, tipping a thunderous header over the bar. 

At the final whistle, players shook hands exhausted—neither willing to give an inch, neither willing to go home empty.
